KARACHI: An official of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) was shot dead in Azizabad on Monday evening under mysterious circumstances.

Police said the 50-year-old was attacked from inside the car he was driving. His daughter, who also was in the car, was injured.

“Ashraf alias Ashu and his young daughter were attacked from inside the car,” Karachi-West DIG Feroz Shah said.

They were taken to a private hospital where doctors said Mr Ashraf, deputy director, had died.

His daughter was said to be out of danger.

The DIG said police were investigating the motive for the murder.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen said Ashraf Abbas was a trustee of the Azizabad Imambargah Sakina and it was a targeted killing.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement said Mr Abbas was a worker of the party’s unit 153 in F.B. Area sector.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain condemned the attack.
