Website review: BrainPOP

Published October 25, 2014

THERE is just too much — too much to learn, play and watch! See, I told you our cyberspace is full of interesting stuff but it is always hard to find one appropriate for your age. So today we are exploring another ‘too interesting’ website — BrainPOP.

BrainPOP is full of animated curricular content that engages student in learning and boost success. With its interesting interface you can learn about science, social studies, math, engineering, health, art and music, etc.

Through these main categories you can dig further in your favourite topic. For instance, in ‘Health’ you can learn about genetics, germs, nutrition, sports and fitness, disease and injuries, etc. While in ‘Arts and music’, you can learn about art concepts, creating music, musical genre, famous artists and musicians, and many more. Let’s say the more complex the subjects, the easier you learn them here.

The videos or clips feature friendly cartoon characters Tim and Moby discuss related topics in brief, followed by fun activities and games. Kids can adapt gameplay by choosing easy or hard quizzes and exploring topics through writing, drawing, talking, or reading.

What is discouraging is most of the BrainPOP is available through subscription but still there are some “Free stuff” where you can go through free content related to the above explained categories.

According to the website creators, all of their resources are supported by BrainPOP Educators, that is their hub for free professional development and teacher resources like lesson plans, webinars, video tutorials and graphic organisers.
