Remembering Parveen Shakir

ISLAMABAD: The death anniversary of renowned poetess Parveen Shakir will be observed on Thursday (today) during which the trust in her name would place flower wreaths at her grave in H-8 Graveyard at 10am.

Parveen Shakir was awarded the Pride of Performance Award for her contributions to literature. She had written several books on poetry including Khushbu, Khud Kalaami and Kaf-e-Aina.

On Dec 26, 1994, her car collided with a bus near Zero Point which resulted in her death. The road where she died has been named after her.

Parveen Qadir Agha, the chairperson of Parveen Shakir Trust, told Dawn that after placing the wreath, participants would leave for Lahore where Pakistan Post Office will hold a function at Alhamra Arts Council. The function would inaugurate a commemorative stamp for Parveen Shakir, she said.
