GUJAR KHAN, Sept 6: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is committed to ushering development and resolving the public’s problems.

Elected representatives of the rival parties have been concentrating on strengthening their families and have neglected the uplift of Gujar Khan.

This was stated by Raja Jawaid Ashraf, patron in chief of the PPP Gujar Khan chapter, during a public inauguration of the Mandra-Chakwal highway project at Jatli village in Gujar Khan tehsil on Thursday.

The event was also attended by MPA Raja Tariq Kiani, Brig (retired) Raja Khurram Pervez Ashraf and former MPA Mohammad Hassan.

He went on to say that the dualisation of Mandra-Chakwal highway would herald a new era of development in Gujar Khan and Chakwal areas, and road users within the area will not only have direct access to the motorway but also to the new airport near Fatehjang.

The project will be completed at the cost of over Rs400 million.

Raja Jawaid Ashraf said the PPP was a genuine representative of the masses and that the party had offered unparalleled sacrifices – from Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to Benazir Bhutto – and that its leadership is committed to strengthening Pakistan.

Raja Khurram Pervez Ashraf said Raja Pervez Ashraf had brought an era of regional uplift to Rawalpindi and particularly Gujar Khan.

Since then Mr Raja has held a keen interest in the area and after assuming the office of prime minister, he continued to follow through on his promise of regional development by allocating funds to the construction of a dual carriageway between Gujar Khan and Chakwal. He said the project will accelerate industrial and economic activity within the region.

Former MPA Brig M. Hassan, Raja Shahjehan Sarfraz, District President PPP Chakwal Raja Tariq Kiani and Raja Mohammad  Nazar of Chakwal also spoke on the occasion.

PM’s visit cancelled

Policemen from Rawalpindi and Chakwal districts were deployed along the route from Islamabad to Jatli, and a helipad was carved in Jatli village in anticipation of the Prime Minister’s presence at the inauguration. However, the visit was cancelled due to bad weather and security concerns.
