Apwa GBSS clinch schools title

KARACHI, April 14: Apwa Government Boys Secondary School (GBSS) of Korangi clinched the Siemens Inter-school Cricket Cup by defeating F.F. Public School of Buffer Zone, by 47 runs in the final played at National Stadium on Monday.

Batting first, Apwa GBSS scored 170 with M. Zeeshan making 47 and Shaharyar Sajid 33.

Saadullah and Farrukh Musheer claimed two wickets while giving away 12 and 32 runs, respectively.

F.F. Public School, in reply, were dismissed for 123 despite an unbeaten 29 by Farrukh Musheer.

Tariq Ali Khan took the bowling honours in the final. He captured four for 32 to claim the Man-of-the-Match award.

Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui, managing director of Siemens Pakistan who was the chief guest at the final, gave away the prizes.

Former Test captain Moin Khan, accompanied by fellow Test players Danish Kaneria and Faisal Iqbal, were present on the occasion and distributed special awards to the budding youngsters.

Ali Asad of Al-Jadeed School was declared the player-of-the-tournament. Humayun Alamgir of SKBZ DHA was adjudged best bowler, Apwa GBSS’s Syed Talib Ali the best batsman while Owais Rehmani of Shams GBSS won the best wicket-keeper’s prize.

Ex-Test pacer Jalaluddin, chief of the Customs Cricket Coaching Academy, announced free coaching for about 20 selected schoolboys at the academy.
