ISLAMABAD, Nov 8: Matloob Baig's paintings convey his love of nature, exquisitely capturing the quintessential green world of rural Punjab.
The exhibition, which opened at Gallery Six on Monday, showcases 24 canvasses expressing the painter's love of nature in the true tradition of English poet William Wordsworth, finding beauty in flowers and lakes. The exhibition is Mr Baig's first in the capital.
Viewers will like the painting of a dust storm, trees swaying with the full fury of storm, painted in gold the sand enveloping the village scene. In other large sized oil and acrylic paintings he shows the beauty of Alipur Chattha - a village in Wazirabad, showing lakes circled by wild shrubs and grass.
When asked if he was influenced by painter Shahid Jalal, who brings out the haunting beauty of rural Punjab, the painter said he was his own master. Mr Baig, who paints spontaneously, sometimes spends two days at a stretch to finish work.
Another painting which will catch the viewers' attention is portrayal of evening, with water and grass, catching the peculiar sense of evening in a rural Pakistani landscape.
Mr Baig, who has done Master's in Fine Arts, plans to paint the countryside in winter fog. He will begin work shortly as fog wraps Punjab countryside. He has held five solo exhibitions.
