KARACHI, Dec 19: A proposal for establishment of council for under graduates medical research is being forwarded to the Higher Education Commission and the Pakistan Medical and Research Council to develop research acumen among medical students.

Prof Shoaib Tauheed, the chairperson students' session committee of the ongoing annual symposium of Dow varsity, reminded that no less than 70 research papers by the undergraduate medical students from across the country were presented at the students sessions which itself was a unique experience.

Taking advantage of the same and to promote the trend on strong grounds, he said that through the platform of physiology department of Dow University of Health Sciences and with the support of its vice-chancellor he would seek provision for a council.

Seeking cooperation of all medical teachers and scientists, the senior professor said that the council besides facilitating and enhancing the standard of undergraduate research would also arrange workshops and seminars on topics related to research.

He mentioned that maximum number of papers at the symposium was presented by the students of Dow varsity's physiology department. Other students who came forward with their research work included students from Army Medical College, Rawalpindi; Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore; Karachi Medical and Dental College. -APP
