Pakistan earn fifth place

LAHORE: Pakistan edged out Thailand 3-2 in the play-off match to clinch fifth place in the boys’ U-18 Asian Volleyball Cham­pionship in Haikou, China on Saturday.

Pakistan won the battle 17-25, 28-26, 25-21, 18-25, 15-12 at the Haikou Wuyuan River Gym­nasium.

Earlier in the event, Pakistan lost to China in the quarter-final in a five-set thriller, which was the only defeat Pakistan suffered in the 16-nation event, after having remained unbeaten in the pool stage.
