LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) on Thursday issued its performance outlook report for the period from July 2024 to December 2025, claiming reduction of line losses by 2.4pc during the period.
The report has also been presented to Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari by Lesco Chairman Amir Zia, according to the Lesco Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Ramzan Butt.
“We have tried our best to improve our performance during this period, saving billions of rupees through making reduction in line losses and introducing reforms by the end of last year. He said reduction of line losses by 2.4pc (from 15.8pc to 13.4pc) is a big achievement,” Mr Butt told Dawn on Thursday.
According to the report, the company saved Rs138bn in total through reduction in transmission and distribution losses and other initiatives. It retrieved precious urban land measuring 40 kanals worth Rs800m from land grabbers in Lahore and other parts of its service areas.
“The total saving of Rs138bn included Rs36bn through line losses reduction, Rs25bn through improvement in billing and recovery and Rs77bn through reforms in procurement.”
The report said that to reduce circular debt, Lesco made efforts to modernise its revenue system worth Rs1tr.
The policy for the investment of Rs150 billion was enforced. The business plan for the year 2025 to 2028 was finalised. The merger of GIS mapping, AMI meters and BMS system was initiated.
To improve operational performance, the company launched a massive drive against power theft besides introducing reforms in the supply chain. It reduced the price of single and three phase meters by 32pc and 47pc, enabling it to save over Rs7bn. The improvement in system ensured complaint resolve ratio from 66pc to 95pc.
LWMC: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) carried out a waste clearance operation at the Hudiara Drain on the Ferozepur Road.
As part of the cleaning operation, more than 160 additional workers along with heavy machinery were deployed to clean the drain located in the industrial zone near the Ferozepur Road, according to a spokesman.
The LWMC teams ensured waste removal and cleanliness at various surrounding points, including Gajjumata, Rajput Farm House, Stop No. 47, and the adjoining Rohi Nala. The staff remained active in desilting activities at key areas such as Bhubtian Chowk near the PSO Pump, Truck Adda, and the areas adjacent to the Wasa office.
“Under the Suthra Punjab drive, the LWMC continues to take effective measures to provide improved sanitation facilities across the city. The company is also extending cooperation and support to other institutions to ensure sustainable cleanliness,” the spokesman explained.
He added the company was also assisting Wasa in cleaning drains throughout Lahore to keep the drainage system functional and ensure uninterrupted water disposal.
“We urge the citizens to cooperate by disposing of waste responsibly and avoiding dumping garbage in streets, bridges, drains, canals, or open plots. Residents can register cleanliness-related complaints by contacting the LWMC helpline 1139 or through its official social media platforms,” he sought.
LDA: Various teams of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) town planning wing sealed 56 properties for non-payment of commercialisation fee and penalties, according to a spokesman.
