SWABI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leaders on Saturday gave away cheques of Rs 84 million to families, who lost their near and dear ones in the recent flash floods that hit the Dalori Bala and Sarkoi villages in the mountainous Gadoon Amazai region.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had announced giving Rs2 million each to the affected families during his visit to the district on Tuesday.

Former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, provincial transport minister Rangaiz Khan, Swabi tehsil mayor Attaullah Khan and deputy commissioner Nasarullah Khan gave away cheques to the families of the deceased.

When contacted, Nasarullah Khan told Dawn that a total 42 cheques were given away to the heirs of the bereaved families, adding that 37 victims belonged to Dalori Bala, four to Sarkoi Payyan and one to Karnal Sher Khan Kali.

Speaking on the occasion, Asad Qaiser said: “All possible resources will be utilised for the rehabilitation of the flood victims.”

He said that the district administration did an excellent job in collaboration with other institutions and welfare organisations during the floods, adding that as heavy rain was predicted once again they hoped that the administration would take preventive measures to avoid further losses.

“We share the pain and suffering of our brothers and sisters equally,” he said.
