STRAY DOGS

STRAY DOGS: The number of stray dogs in the federal capital has increased to an alarming level. In tragic incidents, two young boys and an elderly woman have died in recent times due to vicious attacks by stray dogs in my residential area. Even though the matter was brought to the notice of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), no improvement has been noticed thus far. It is high time the relevant authorities sorted out the issue.

SPORTS TALENT: Pakistan’s recent successes in sports have offered a ray of hope. In hockey, Pakistan reached the final of the Nations Cup after years in wilderness. On the other hand, in squash, young players have won the World Squash Championship and the World Junior Squash title after 37 years. Arshad Nadeem, with his conspicuous javelin throw skills, continues to shine in the world of athletics. In football, Pakistan won a World Cup qualifier for the first time. Esports is also booming, with players such as Arslan Ash showcasing the dominance of Pakistani Tekken players. There is immense potential in Pakistan. The relevant bodies and authorities need to recognise this, and invest in infrastruc- ture and academies at the grassroots level.

PROGRESSIVE DECISION: The recent Supreme Court verdict marks a significant step towards the protection of women’s rights within the Nikahnama. The court emphasised the need for clearer, more accessible contracts, overseen by informed and accountable registrars, to ensure both parties, especially women, are fully aware of their legal rights. Besides, the ruling also supported broader educational initiatives to empower women with knowledge about their marital rights, including the right to divorce, and proposed integrating necessary medical tests before marriage. This progressive decision underlines the importance of reshaping outdated conventions through relevant laws and awareness to ensure justice and equity in marital relationships.
