LAKKI MARWAT: The police on Tuesday defused a bomb in the Michenkhel area of Lakki Marwat district.

An official said that local residents spotted a suspected object along a dirt track in the urban locality and informed police.

He said district police officer Mohammad Jawad Ishaq immediately dispatched a policy party to the venue, which cordoned off the area and called experts of the bomb disposal squad.

The cops stopped movement of individuals and vehicles on the road for some time while the BDS personnel defused the bomb weighing 18kg,” the official said, adding that unknown miscreants had planted the bomb to target police and security forces.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least three incidents of IED blasts have occurred in parts of the southern district during the last three weeks.

On the night of June 17, terrorists blew up a gas pipeline with a homemade bomb in the Wanda Amir area.

In another terrorist attack, a gas pipeline was blown up with an IED near Jabbarkhel area on the night of June 26.

A bomb targeted a main pipeline supplying gas to Punjab, severely damaging it near Torwah on the night of July 2.
