SAHIWAL: A newlywed couple from Daska, Sialkot, was allegedly shot dead in a case of honour killing at Chak 111/7-R on Thursday.
The victims were identified as Shahzadi and her husband, Farhan, residents of village Govandkay of Daska. The suspected killer was identified as Shahzadi’s elder brother Zulfiqar.
Chichawatni ASP Taseer said the couple had contracted a marriage of free will without the consent of Shahzadi’s family four months ago.
Reports said that Shahzadi and Farhan were maternal cousins. After a court marriage, they fled their ancestral village and were assisted in renting a house in Chichawatni city by Farhan’s distant relative Faisal, of Chak 111/7-R. Faisal was the only person aware of their whereabouts.
Police investigation revealed that Shahzadi’s brother Zulfiqar, who was searching for them, convinced Faisal to arrange a meeting on the pretext of resolving both families dispute over the court marriage. He convinced Faisal that he was ready to accept the marriage and assured him that his family would forgive Shahzadi and reconcile with Farhan’s family. Acting on this assurance, Faisal called Shahzadi and Farhan to his house for a meeting. When the couple arrived at Faisal’s house, Zulfiqar shot both of them dead and fled.
The bodies were sent to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Chichawatni, for an autopsy.
