LAHORE: The Standing Committee of Cabinet on Law and Order on Friday reviewed security measures for the Champions Trophy cricket series and approved deployment of the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers personnel for security of the event.

The committee’s 22nd meeting presided over by Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique decided to ensure foolproof security arrangements for the sports event in line with the joint security audit report.

The committee also ordered foolproof security arrangements for the annual religious gathering in Raiwind.

Mr Rafique told the meeting that Pakistan’s economy depended on a peaceful environment in the country. He said it was the state’s responsibility to protect the lives and property of people and provide them with an enabling environment. He said the masses were also enjoying Horse and Cattle Show in a peaceful environment.

Earlier, Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal briefed the meeting about the law and order situation across the province.

Special secretary (home) Fazalur Rehman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sumair Syed, Lahore commissioner and deputy commissioner and other line departments’ officers attended the meeting.
