LAHORE: Punjab traffic police have launched online renewal of regular and international driving licences.

The step was taken after Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar approved the initiative aimed at saving people from inconvenience of visiting different offices to get licences.

The IG says that over 80 percent of the workload on the staff concerned pertained to renewal of driving licences, saying the online initiative would be a great relief for the applicants, who can avail the facility without visiting the offices.

“The citizens will now be able to get their regular and international licences renewed by making online payments and submitting the [required] documents”, the IG says.Similarly, renewal of learner’s driving licence is also going on at the front desks at the police stations, he adds.

Anwar says that instead of the old ticket system being used for collecting driving licence fee, now the applicants can pay the fee amount through the e-payment system. They can avail the facilities through the public portal of the Punjab Police, DLIMS website and Punjab Police App, he adds.

The IG says the aim of these measures is to make the process of issuance of licences easier for the public.
