ISLAMABAD: Aqeel Khan, Barkatullah, Abdullah Adnan, Yousuf Khalil, Muzammil Murtaza, Mohammad Shoaib, Mudassar Murtaza and Mohammad Abid reached the men’s singles quarter-finals of the 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships here at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

Unseeded Abdullah caused the major upset of the day when he defeated seventh seed Heera Ashiq 7-6(5), 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinal.

In other last-16 matches, in-form top seed Aqeel eliminated Ahmed Nael 6-3, 6-0, second seed Shoaib routed Asadullah Khan 6-2, 6-2 and Abid brushed aside Baqar Ali 6-1, 6-0.

Muzammil and Mudassar also won their matches in straight sets.
