BAJAUR: The first rehabilitation centre for drug addicts was established in Bajaur tribal district on Tuesday.
Deputy commissioner Fahad Wazir inaugurated the centre, set up in Khar town by a group of local social activists, in a ceremony arranged for the purpose.
District police officer Abdul Samad Khan, medical superintendent of district headquarters hospital, Khar, Dr Liaquat Khan, Khar tehsil council chairman Haji Said Badshah, JUI-F district chief Maulana Abdur Rasheed, neighbourhood council chairman Anwar Hussain and Bajaur Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Haji Lali Shah attended the ceremony besides scores of social and political activists.
Speaking on the occasion, the deputy commissioner appreciated the local social activists for establishing the first rehabilitation centre for drug addicts in Bajaur and described it as a much-needed initiative.
Mr Wazir said that treatment of addicts was essential as Bajaur was among the areas where scores of residents were using different drugs.
He asked the well-off people of Bajaur to come forward and work for the welfare of affected people by establishing such rehabilitation centres in other parts of the district.
