LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has announced its protest plan for an increase in salaries of medics across the province.

A press conference was held in this regard at the Mayo Hospital Lahore here on Tuesday where the YDA men demanded an upward revision in their salary package.

They also made another announcement to launch a new movement against the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Act. The senior leaders of the YDA Punjab Dr Salman Haseeb, Dr Mudasar Nawaz, Dr Ijaz and others were present. The YDA’s move surprised many faculty members of the institute who declared it an attempt by some ‘loyal doctors’ of a political party.

They said as the YDA came to know that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government was no more in power, they planned a new agitation to disrupt healthcare.

The senior faculty members of the teaching institute have asked the health authorities to take notice of the move and ensure smooth treatment to the masses at the state-run hospitals of the province.

On the other hand, the YDA men demanded 50 per cent increase in the salary package of the young doctors and other employees working in government hospitals of Punjab.

They said the YDA would not accept the MTI Act and asked the authorities concerned to get it abolished through amendments to laws.

The YDA men warned of a province-wide agitation if their demands were not met in letter and spirit.
