MUZAFFARGARH: PML-N MPA Sardar Azhar Khan Chandia, who was a member of party’s five-member dissidents group backing the ruling alliance in the Punjab Assembly, announced support for Hamza Shahbaz on Saturday.

Earlier, Chandia’s son Naeem Khan had called on Pervaiz Elahi in his Punjab Assembly Chamber on Friday and told him that his ailing father would vote in his favour.

Naeem told Dawn that he had visited the speaker on his invitation but did not hold out any assurance. He said his father would vote for Hamza since he was elected on the PML-N ticket in 2018.

Chandia had joined the rebel group along with Nishat Daha group and reportedly received millions of rupees in the name of development. But his son claims no funds were release for his constituency.

He also faces NAB cases of alleged land fraud.
