MULTAN: The Collectorate of Customs Multan seized smuggled goods worth Rs501m during the last two months.
The recovered goods included betel nuts, welding electrodes, tyres, skimmed milk powder and non-custom-paid vehicles besides the narcotics.
According to an official report, the goods were recovered during from Aug 1 to Sept 29 under the guidance of member (Customs Operations) Tariq Huda, Chief Collector (Enforcement – Central) Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhry and Collector Enforcement Multan Imran Ahmad Chaudhry.
On Sept 25, a crackdown was carried out against a smuggling racket of Haji Sadiq and a container of fabric, valuing Rs74m was intercepted besides a truck loaded with skimmed milk powder worth Rs20m.
“This Collectorate during the last fiscal year has seized foreign origin smuggled goods worth 3,936 million including betel nut, skimmed milk powder, cigarettes, mobile phones, high-speed diesel etc along with several cases of narcotics,” the report said.
