BAHAWALPUR: A locomotive of an Express train caught fire creating panic among passengers near Dera Nawab Sahib railway station about 38 kilometres away from here on Saturday.

According to Abid Rahim, an official of the Rescue 1122 Ahmedpur East, the driver of Lahore-bound Shah Hussain Express noticed smoke emitting from wheels near the Dera Nawab Sahib railway station and immediately informed the rescuers.

Assistant Commissioner Ahmedpur East Usman Gilani, along with administrative and police officials, reached the railway station where a team of the Rescue 1122 extinguished the fire with Direct Central Powder (DCP) cylinder. He said the diesel engine No 6013 had six electric motors and its fifth motor had caught fire the cause of which could not be immediately ascertained.
