RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has asked all government employees and their families to get themselves vaccinated against Covid-19 by June 30.

On the direction of the National Coordination Committee, the Services and General Administration Department asked senior member board of revenue, additional chief secretary, chairman Planning and Development Board, the inspector general of police, all administrative secretaries, commissioners and deputy commissioners to ensure 100pc vaccination of the government employees and their families by June 30 and submit the certificates by July 1.

After receiving the letter, Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah asked all the departments in the four districts to implement it with immediate effect.

Officials here said 2,337 prisoners and staff of Central Jail Adiala have so far been given the first dose and 211 prisoners have got their second jab and 2,196 the first one.

According to the jail authorities, 242 prisoners and jail staff have been given the second dose and 31 staff members the second dose.

The vaccination of the jail staff and inmates started on March 13.

Meanwhile, three people died and 33 more people tested positive in the district of Rawalpindi on Thursday.

Abdul Shakoor, 75, a resident of Waris Khan, was admitted to Polyclinic on June where he died.

Ghulam Zaitoon, 65, of Mughalabad, died at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences a day after being admitted there.

Ahsan Azeem, 61, resident of Kohistan Colony in Taxila, was brought to Pims on June 2 where he also died.

In Rawalpindi district, there are 549 active patients. As many as 95 patients are in hospitals and 454 home isolated. Moreover, 712 patients are waiting for their results.

Of the new cases, eight were reported from the cantonment, three from Potohar Town and nine from Rawal Town.

From other parts of the district, two patients arrived from Gujar Khan and one from Taxila. Two patients were brought from Islamabad. Of the new patients, 17 are admitted in Holy Family Hospital, 14 in Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), 18 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology (RIU), nine in Fauji Foundation Hospital (FFH), three at Bilal Hospital and one patient in Hearts International Hospital.

There are three patients on ventilators, 36 on oxygen and 23 are stable.

Islamaabad

As many as 89 new cases were reported in the capital on Thursday.

Officials said during the last 24 hours, 4,638 tests were conducted and 48 males and 41 females were found infected. The positivity rate remained 1.91pc.

They said 20 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39 followed by 14 each in 0-9 and 50-59, 13 in 20-29, 10 in 60-69, nine in 40-49, seven in 10-19, and one each in 70-79 and 80 and above.

Likewise, seven cases were reported from Khanna, five each from Lo Bibher, G-6, I-10, G-13, four each from Bhara Kahu, G-11, Rawat, H-12, three each from Tarlai, G-9, two each from G-10, I-8, G-7, Chak Shahzad, G-8, I-11 and one each from E-11, F-10, F-8, Alipur, Kurri, Chirrah, Sihala, Kirpa, G-14, and Tarnol.

Attock

The positivity ratio in Attock dropped to the lowest level in the last week of May and the current month, health authorities said on Thursday.

According to official data of the District Health Department, the positivity rate in the district in May was 14pc which in the last seven days of the month dropped to 0.6pc. Five people tested positive for the virus on June 1, one person tested positive on June 2 while four people were found infected on Thursday.

Moreover, the tally Covid-19 patients in the district surged to 2,194. District Focal Person for Covid-19 Dr Kashif Hussain said the number of active patients in the district was 93 out of whom 89 were home isolated and the others were hospitalised.

He said there are 71 patients in Attock city, 14 in Hazro, six in Pindigheb and one each in Hassanabdal and Jand. Five suspected patients are also admitted in different health facilities - three in Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Pindigheb, one each in THQ Hazro and DHQ Attock. So far, 2,060 people have recovered from the virus in the district. — Additional reporting by Amjad Iqbal
