SAHIWAL: The Harappa Museum and its affiliated 175 acres, protected under archeological terms, will be developed to attract world class tourism to the archeological sites.

This was decided in a meeting, chaired by Asif Mahmood, adviser to the chief minister on tourism, at Harappa Museum on Tuesday.

He told the meeting participants that the Punjab government was trying to bring tourists at its gate in future by upgrading Harappa Museum.

Mr Hassan, deputy director of the archeology, said that under the plan, a new museum building would be constructed with 3D modern technology and architecture.

A golf court and upgrade of facilities for local and international tourists would be provided on the site. Mr Mahmood said a team of consultants has been hired to develop the master plan for the museum upgrade.

He said the Punjab government was pursuing Unesco to include the Harappa Museum and its remains on the World Heritage List.

The meeting was attended by Kamran Lashari, director general of the Lahore Walled City Authority, Riaz Hamdani, director of the arts council, Tanveer Jabbar, director of the tourism corporation, Ihsan Bhutta, secretary of the Punjab Tourism and Archeology and others.
