LAHORE: The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has finalised its online admission policy for Fall-2020 and will start the admission process on Sept 9.

Online admissions are announced in 100 programs of the 40 teaching departments at Graduate and Postgraduate levels. The university is also commencing online admissions for intermediate college in all the combinations from Sept 11.

The decision was taken at a meeting of an online accreditation committee chaired by LCWU Vice Chancellor Dr Bushra Mirza while deans, directors and other relevant officials were also present.

Ms Mirza said the pandemic has badly affected the education sector and it is necessary to shift towards alternative methods and online admission policy will be helpful to restore the academic process.

The University is going to announce Online Admissions at Intermediate, BS, MS / M Phil and PhD levels for all the Programs including Professional Degree Programs like Computer Science, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, City and Regional Planning and Pharmacy.

The Online System is provisioned with online document submissions and is fully integrated with the online fee deposit system. The University is also establishing an online IT based help desk to fully entertain the queries of all interested applicants in real-time.

Neither the applicants nor the parents would have to visit the campus physically because of this Online Admissions System.

Ms Mirza also directed the IT team to train their coordinators and share tutorials on Web TV of LCWU as well as on the website for applicants to fill the admissions forms online.

UET: University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mechatronics and Control Engineering Department student has won the 2020 IEEE James O. Gray Scholarship for graduate students.

Mahnoor Mehmood of session 2019 became the first Pakistani to win the scholarship. One graduate and one undergraduate student who is studying Process Control Systems Engineering, Plant Automation or Instrumentation and Measurement, is awarded with this scholarship in a year. The student will be awarded $5000 and given a certificate by IEEE, as a reward.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar felicitated her along with Chairman Electrical Engineering Department Prof Dr K. M. Hassan and Salman Fakhar, Teacher incharge of IEEE student chapter at UET.

GCU: A one-day special training session on protection against harassment at workplace was held here at the office of the Punjab ombudsperson for focal persons of Government College University, Lahore.

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi also attended the concluding session of the training conducted by Ombudsperson Ms. Rukhsana Gilani.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Gilani said sexual harassment, abuse and discrimination in Pakistan’s workplaces, including universities, were pervasive, mostly unreported.

She appreciated that the GCU vice chancellor had taken a step forward and appointed 10 focal persons for handling and prevention of sexual harassment cases on the campus.

The training was designed to equip focal persons with maximum knowledge of this sensitive subject matter. They were given information on how to create a safe working environment for women and men.

Prof. Dr. Zaidi said there was a dire need to create awareness about the issue among faculty, students and staff of universities. He also informed that Government College University had launched a massive awareness campaign that included training of the staff and students to make the university a harassment-free institution.

TEVTA: Technical and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) will provide free of cost online skills through e-learning courses to 16,200 students under the CM’s Flagship Hunarmand Nojwan Programme.

Tevta chairperson Ali Salman Siddique was addressing the launching ceremony of the courses.

The e-courses offered include E-Rozgar Technical (Web Development), E-Rozgar Creative (Graphic Designing) and Virtual Assistant Training which entails e-employment opportunity through trading over international platforms like Amazon, eBay etc.

Mr Salman said the courses would empower the students to be financially independent while working from their homes after completion of the training.

He said the students would be able to contribute towards the national economy by earning valuable foreign exchange through e-trading over international platforms.

He said that the CM’s Hunarmand Nojwan Programme would serve as a vehicle towards realization of PM Imran Khan’s vision of provision of jobs and economic opportunities for the youth. He said they were focusing on launching demand driven quality courses in order to develop economic opportunities for its trained workforce.
