PESHAWAR: The National Minority Day was celebrated on Tuesday to highlight the contribution of the minorities for the country’s progress.

In this connection, a seminar was organised at the Peshawar Press Club, where the participants praised different minority groups for playing effective role in the Pakistan Movement and the nation building.

A cake was cut and prayers were offered for the country’s prosperity on the occasion.

The event was arranged by Pakistan Minority Rights Committee (PMRC), wherein special assistant to the chief minister on minorities’ affairs, MPA Wazirzada, was the chief guest.

PMRC chairman Saqib Saghir, Bishop of Pakistan Aslant Jacob, Moazam Butt Advocate, MPA Wilson, and others spoke on the occasion, highlighting the significance of the National Minority Day.

They praised the ministry of religious affairs and interfaith harmony for arranging various events across the country to celebrate the day. They recalled the vision of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah with reference to his speeches and the contribution of non-Muslim communities in the country.

The speakers said celebrating the minority day provided an opportunity to reassure that despite belonging to different faiths Pakistanis were living as one nation. They talked about the contribution of minorities in different fields, including health, education and social welfare.

On the occasion, MPA Wazirzada from Kalash valley of Chitral, lauded the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government for providing jobs to the minority people and improving infrastructure in their localities.
