GUJRAT: The University of Gujrat’s another academic block costing Rs 160 million became functional on Thursday.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi who had founded the UoG as then chief minister in 2004 was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony where he pledged to provide funds for varsity’s convocation hall. He announced reconstruction of a road from the Grand Trunk Road leading to the Hafiz Hayat Campus of the UoG at a cost of Rs 115 million.
He said the standard of education in Gujrat University was improving with the passage of time.
Earlier, UoG director media told Dawn the new academic block comprised 24 classrooms, 12 lecture halls and six computer labs in addition to 18 offices. The block will serve the academic needs of around 2500 students. The ceremony was also attended by former federal minister Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, former Punjab education minister Mian Imran Masood, MPA Chaudhry Abdullah Yousuf and Saadat Nawaz Ajnala, former Gujrat tehsil nazim.
