KARACHI: The municipal administration has launched a ‘grand’ operation against encroachments in parts of the city and seized hundreds of stalls and other articles.

A senior officer of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation told Dawn that the anti-encroachment staff carried out an operation in districts South, West, Central and Korangi and demolished several illegal structures built on footpaths, green belts and along the streets in Lea Market, Shah Faisal Colony, Korangi, Hub River Road, New Karachi and Nazimabad.

He said that the illegal shops, stalls, cabins and restaurants were demolished, while a large number of chairs, tables, cages, cupboards, grills, pushcarts and sugar-cane crushing machines were confiscated during the operation.

He said that the anti-encroachment operation would also be launched in districts East and Malir shortly.

Meanwhile, the KMC appealed to the people not to let anyone install billboards on their buildings as it would be a violation of the Supreme Court’s order.
