KARACHI: Two favourites and a co-favourite swept a small three-event card in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

After three dismal runs, unknown pedigree bay horse Tip Top, formerly known as Mamoon, returned to winning ways capturing the day’s feature event. The victorious horse, who became favourite in the end, galloped to four lengths victory over mare Lovely Baby in the third and last race. This was Lovely Baby’s third consecutive second place finish.

Tip Top’s last success came on June 22 when he got the better of Royal Salute by four lengths in the same scale order II, II and IV contested over four furlongs.

Dark bay horse Black Smoke fell half-a-length behind for third place with Native Prince completing the frame.

A race earlier bay horse Piyara Faisal avenged his last defeat imposing to a length victory over another bay horse and co-favourite Mohallaydar to clinch the supporting race.

It may be mentioned that Mohallaydar had registered a two-length victory over Piyara Faisal in the Aug 18 meeting.

Royal Fort was edged by head to seize third place followed by Sanobar. At the outset, public fancy dark bay horse The Champion Star defeated stable-mate bay horse Royal Champion by neck to clinch the opening race.

Mehak and Jungle Queen followed the top two respectively on board.

Three horses, one from each race, were withdrawn before the races began, leaving half-a-dozen horses in each race to vie for honours.

The horses who were withdrawn included Winx, Kahkashan and Turbo Jet from the first, second and third races respectively.

Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Saturday.
