SWABI: The residents of Dubian and Yar Hussain areas blocked the Yar Hussain-Adina and Dubian-Dagai roads here on Tuesday against power cuts during Eid days.

The protesters placed tractor-trolleys on the roads shouting slogans against the government, Peshawar Electric Supply Company, and Wapda.

ANP leader Ayaz Shoaib, who led the rally, flayed the Wapda and Pesco for not fulfilling promise of smooth electric supply during Eid days.

Jamaat-i-Islami leader Mehmoodul Hassan said the Pesco had subjected rural areas to the prolonged power outages sparing urban areas.

He said the suspension of electric supply had spoiled Eid festival.

Trader leader Nural Hayati said power outages had adversely affected trade and Eid celebrations.

The administration’s officials later met power protesters and promised the early resolution of the problem.

The mob dispersed peacefully afterward.

DROWNED: A 20-year-old man drowned in the Pehur High Level canal here on Monday.

Yaseen Khan of Diwal Gari village in Gadoon Amazai area slipped into the canal after showing up there with friends to beat the heat.

The divers recovered the body and handed it over to the family for burial.

KILLED: A man was killed in Dolat Gombat area.

A woman told police that her husband was killed by his brother, Said Rehman, and nephew Mahaz Khan over a land dispute.

They police said they had arrested both accused and seized a hand grenade and a Kalashnikov.

Meanwhile, the police held Farmanullah of Nowshera after recovering four kilogrammes charas from his car near the Swabi interchange of Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway on Tuesday.

SHO Jawad Khan said the charas hidden under the backseat was being smuggled to Punjab

He said the drug smuggler was being interrogated after the registration of a case.
