SWABI: A local court has sent a woman to Darul Aman in Mardan after she refused to go with her husband, sources told Dawn here on Monday.

Shehla, wife of Mohammad Zakir, recorded her statement before the court, saying she had left home because of threats from her husband.

She urged the court not to send her back home as her husband might harm her. On her request, the court sent her to Darul Aman till further orders.

The woman’s husband belonging to Jalbai village told mediapersons that his wife was missing when he got up for Sehri on May 18.

He said after failure to find her, he approached Tordher police for registration of FIR about her disappearance, but the police did not register the same.

He claimed the next day he was called to the police station where his wife was also present, but he was not allowed to meet her.

However, Chota Lahor DSP Sajjad Hussain rejected Zakir’s allegations, saying the woman first stayed for two days with her parents and for one day in a house in Zakir’s neighbourhood.

He said the woman was brought to Tortdher police station by the elders of Jalsai village because she felt threatened by her husband.

The police later produced her in a court in Chota Lahor where she recorded her statement.

AFGHANS ARRESTED: The police on Monday arrested two Afghans while trying to loot a bank’s ATM in Zaida area.

Zaida SHO Raz Mohammad said two Afghans entered the ATM, and attempted to break it open to steal money, but bank staff immediately informed the police, which arrested the men named Abdullah and Aleem Dad, who lived in Gandaf refugee camp in Topi. The police registered a case against them.

Meanwhile, a cyclist was killed by a speeding car on Swabi-Jehangira Road near Sherabad police post on Monday. He was named Mohammad Ali. The locals took him to Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor in serious condition, but doctors pronounced him dead.
