SWABI: The Women University Swabi (WUS) and the University of Winnipeg (UW), Canada, here on Friday agreed to conduct joint research and strengthen academic collaboration.

The agreement was reached when Prof Athar Ata, Chairman, Department of Chemistry, University of Winnipeg, visited the WUS and held negotiations with Vice-Chancellor Dr Khanzadi Fatima Khattak.

Ms Khattak briefed the guests about the academic achievements of the newly-established university in a short span of time. They also discussed the possibilities for academic and research collaboration between the two varsities.

The two universities agreed to launch joint degree programmes, and a memorandum of understanding would be signed soon.

Prof Ata acknowledged the noble cause of the women university to empower women through quality education.

The guest also planted a sapling at the varsity.

PROCLAIMED OFFENDER KILLED: In a pre-dawn raid, a proclaimed offender was killed and his three colleagues were arrested on Friday, police said.

Kalu Khan police said they had got information about the presence of POs in the house of one Maqsood Khan in Kalu Khan village, adding a raiding party led by SHO Khalid Iqbal blocked all the routes.

Seeing the police party the POs opened fire while trying to escape. The police also retaliated and, as result of ensuing encounter, killed Gul Hussain who was wanted to police in eight different cases.

DSP Razaar Sajjad Hussain said the arrested POs were named Maqsood of Tarakai, Mohammad Yasin of Sher Khan Banda, and Rashid Ahmad of Dandoka village. However, he said another outlaw, Zar Ali Khan of Dandoka village, managed to escape. The police also recovered two Kalashnikovs, nine pistols and several rounds from the possession of culprits.

TEENAGER KILLED: A teenager was killed and another seriously injured while flying kites on Friday.

In Gandaf village, Hizar Khan fell down from the roof a house while flying kite. He was seriously injured and succumbed to injuries in hospital.

Similarly, in Topi city, a boy fell into a well and got injured while flying kite. The area people pulled him out and took him to Topi civil hospital.
