BUNER: Two miners were killed and two others wounded when marble stones fell on them at a mine in Ali Sher Tor Warsak here on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Javed Iqbal of Tor Warsak and Iqbal of Ambela, while the injured included Amjad and Lajbar.

According to details, they were busy in the mine when the incident occurred. Police said that body of Javed Iqbal had been retrieved while search was in progress for Iqbal, driver of an excavator.

They said that the injured Amjad and Lajbar were rescued and taken to the district headquarters hospital, Daggar.

The incident occurred when driver of the excavator was extracting marble stones from the blasted point and the labourers were busy in work, said eyewitnesses.

The hospital emergency staff administered first aid to the injured persons and referred them to a hospital in Peshawar in precarious condition, according to the hospital staff. Funeral prayer for late Javed Iqbal was held at his ancestral graveyard.

Assistant commissioner, police personnel, co-workers and local people carried out the rescue work at the mine.
