SWABI: A farmer was gunned down in Shagai village here on Saturday.

Said Qamar told the police that his brother, Majid Ali, was killed by unidentified gunmen when he was returning from the maize field.

He said the attackers fled. The complainant said his brother and family had no enmity and that he didn’t know the killers and their motive.

The police said they had begun investigation after registering an FIR.

However, no arrest was made by night.

Meanwhile, the International Centre for Advanced Training and Research in Physics (CiFRA) has made Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology pro-rector (academics) Prof Jameelun Nabi a member of its scientific committee.

Prof Jameel told reporters here that he was the only faculty member from Pakistani educational institutions to be appointed to the committee.

He said the centre had also made 10 other international academicians part of the panel, including Sandro Scandolo, Joseph Niemela, Romain Murenzi and Catalina Cruceanu of Italy, Bogdan Dragnea of the US, Cristinel Diaconu and Emilian Dudas of France, Ionut Enculescu and Lucian Pintilie of Romania and Yue-Liang Wu of China.

Prof Jameel said the CiFRA was overseen by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation, while the scientific committee was tasked with offering scientific expertise and policy advice on the development of long-term and medium-term scientific programmes to the centre and preparation of its annual plan, appraising the centre’s activities, recommending the optimum selection of research and development institutions.

The GIK institute’s faculty members welcomed said Prof Jameel’s nomination and said it would help research and academic activities at the institute.
