OKARA: The police registered a case against 20 people, including six women, all alleged gamblers, on Saturday for resisting arrest and opening fire at police officials in Sheikh Basti late on Friday.
The City B-Division police raided the house of Aslam in the locality to bust the gambling den. The police took into custody four people while several others fled taking cover of the shooting.
The police seized Rs50,000 from the scene. Those who fled the arrest are Faisal, Adeel, Imran, Afzal, Imran and Irfan while the police succeeded to arrest Hamza, Akram and others with illegal weapons.
The police registered a case under sections 324 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code and section 5/7/78 of the Gambling Act and section 13 of the Arms Ordinance of 1965.
TRAIN: The Karachi-bound Tezgam train’s power van broke down and delayed the train departure from the Okara station for two hours from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
The fault caused the closure of air-conditioners, lights and fans of the train.
ACE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment, on the complaint of Zakir Husain, arrested junior clerk Ghulam Farid in the local for receiving Rs5,000 bribe to complete the funds file of the complainant.
