TOBA TEK SINGH: Ex- MNA from Faisalabad Chaudhry Ilyas Jatt passed away in Lahore on Thursday after a protracted illness.
Ilyas Jatt had left his native Chak 364-JB (Gojra) and settled in Chak 66-JB Dhandra near Faisalabad.
He contested election on the PPP ticket and became MNA in 1993. He was known for attending National Assembly sessions in traditional Dhoti.
Ilyas Jatt could not take part in 2002 election due to graduation condition and he introduced his son-in-law Dr Nisar Ahmad Jatt who was elected as MNA in 2002 election and again in 2013 from the PML-N ticket.
With the death of Ilyas Jatt, a chapter of three-decade-old enmity between him and ex- MNA from Gojra, Amjad Warraich, also ended. Dozens of people from Jatt and Warraich groups were killed during last 30 years.
In a rare incident in Pakistan’s aviation history on Aug 24, 1995, two assassins allegedly hired by Warraich attacked Jatt on-board a Faisalabad-bound PIA flight. Then PPP MNA, Jatt sustained serious injuries while both the assailants were shot dead by air guards.
Although Jatt had abandoned his residence in Gojra, his groups were still active in the area. He supported each and every candidate who contested against any of Warraich brothers or their group candidates in all elections.
Funeral prayers for Ilyas Jatt will be offered at 9am on Friday (today) at Chak 66-JB, Dhandra.
