Dharna was Gen Shuja Pasha's brainchild, alleges Javed Hashmi

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) former president Javed Hashmi on Sunday said that former ISI chief Gen Shuja Pasha was the brain behind PTI’s 126-day protest in Islamabad.

Talking on DawnNews’ show ‘Doosra Rukh,’ the disgruntled PTI leader said workers had been instructed to drag Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif out of his official residence, while Tahirul Qadri’s workers had been asked to ransack the Parliament with support from PTI.

“Gen Pasha had vowed to oust Nawaz Sharif, Khawaja Asif and Chaudhry Nisar at all costs,” said Hashmi.

He went on to say that Imran Khan had been in regular contact with Gen Kayani and Gen Pasha during the protest movement.

“It was only after I had joined the PTI that I realized the mess I had gotten into,” said the former PTI president.

Suspended by his party in September 2014 following allegations against Imran Khan, Hashmi had announced his resignation from PTI's presidency and its membership soon afterwards. At that time Hashmi had said he could no longer continue being member of a party 'conspiring' to dismantle democracy in Pakistan.

Talking about the situation in Karachi, Hashmi said MQM will have to eliminate violent elements from among its ranks for a sustainable political future.

Why Mr.Hashmi did not reveal this information earlier? Was he intending to use as trump card? He should have kept quite to be honorable. He himself made his character unbelievable and now he has lost total credibility. Do our politicians believe in sel respect? O Mr. Hashmi! I wish you had said all that when you were with PTI enjoying being the president and the 'baghi' of our youth. I wish you hadn't lost all your credibility. Even being a stanch support of Imran Khan, I would've listened to you and would've condemned IK in harshest of words. Even today if these words were uttered by someone more credible than you, I would've sent 'la'nat' on IK and would have distanced myself from politics as I've always done before.

Mr Hashmi should stop spitting venom and wait for his chance to join PMLN again . He was never fully a PTI man when he was with them. This came out involuntarily from him on few occossions , one such Occassion was in the Parliament it self when he muttered that NS was his leader and would remain so for ever. Since my comments goes in PTI favour the readers would assume I could be one of many PTI troll. I am not . I am thousands of miles away observing the melodramatic politicals of so called seasoned politicians.

The protest movement started in August 2014. Gen Kayani retired in November 2013 and Gen Pasha in March 2012. Why was Imran Khan in contact with them during the protest movement then? Doesn't make sense unless both the retired Generals were powerful enough to influence the establishment even after their retirement. Highly doubt it.

IK was surely dancing on someone's tunes. Where is the father of people of Pakistan (TAQ) these days? Isnt Pakistan suffering from same issues these days which TAQ had addressed? Revolutions are brought by real common people. I dont know how come Tareens, Shah Mahmoods, etc are not from status quo. The establishment wanted a weak/dummy PM. IK did it for them and right now they dont need IK. It was Pasha's personal grudge with PM and his some men. IK is a gooner now.

What is the gain in disclosing this information now?? what is the gain from speaking ill about the agencies Months after the Protest has been finished??? Imagine if agencies come after him and open his cases what will be his plan of action? No party will take a loud speaker like him then.. He was the most humiliated man in those dharna days.. Mr. Hashmi this is a bad practice of going public with party strategy & planing. Although you have on your own accord left the party but guarding its secret was essential. This way you have put a question on yourself, why should someone ever trust you again. It is good that you were never provided an opportunity to hold high office otherwise the estate secret would have been compromised.

Mr. Hashmi, you have lost all credentials. You "were" part of Dharna, you went of for a day and again returned on Dharna truck. What kind of philosophy is yours? People had respect for you but unfortunately the respect has been lost. You switched from PML-N to PTI and all the nation showered praises for you and elected you on PTI ticket, then you switched mood and parted ways with PTI and tried running independently, people of your constituency "rejected" you. Your so called allegations would have some weight had the people voted for you (independently) in place of PTI. But now all the allegations seems to be coming out from a person who has lost his ground.

@Khurram just check out today's dawn, there is an ad for attracting private investment inhydro dams. KPK Govt. doesn't have sufficient resources to build on its own. but it is focusing private investors for tourism ( like part in Nathiagali and Khesgi-Nowshera) and hydropower projects.

No harm in forming another Judicial Commission or at least a JIT to probe the real culprits behind the Dharna Conspiracy and their designs. How long individuals on their personal liking or disliking will keep toying with this country. The country almost plunged into anarchy and hardly returned from the brink of civil war not very different from the current situation in Yemen. We must identify and punish those responsible for creating mayhem in the country when unity and stability was the need of the hour.
