RAWALPINDI, March 26: The Noor Khan Airbase and Benazir Bhutto International Airport were placed on “high alert” on Tuesday night in the light of intelligence that terrorists might target the facilities within 24 hours, security sources said.

Following the intelligence, the security around the airbase and the airport was further tightened with patrolling by heavily-armed troops and elite force commandoes along the runway, Rawal Road and Kural area.

A senior security official confirmed that the airbase and the airport were placed on high alert due to the terror threat.

“This time, the terror threat was very serious, therefore, all possible security measures have been taken to avert any such act,” he added. — Staff Reporter
