BAHAWALPUR, June 6 The Punjab government has yet to appoint the Bahawalpur regional police officer (RPO) as earlier RPO Ahmad Raza Tahir was transferred and posted Lahore capital city police officer one month ago.

But he had to relinquish the post after the Lahore High Court showed its displeasure over his appointment because of his 'negligent role' in the Gojra violence.

DIG Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera was to replace Mr Tahir as Bahawalpur RPO but he is currently participating in a training course.

The key post is lying vacant though both police and government are under pressure after the federal interior minister's statements regarding activities of militants in south Punjab.
