MANSEHRA, June 3 A jirga of Kohistan constituted lashkars at union, tehsil and district levels to curb possible infiltration of militants from the neighbouring restive districts.

“We want enforcement of the Nizam-i-Adl Regulation in the district, and achieved it through peaceful struggle. We will not allow anybody to infiltrate into our district to disturb its peaceful environment, and if needed we will take up arms and respond with full might,” said elders at the jirga held in Dasso on Wednesday.

Malik Karam Jan, Karam Khan, Samunder Khan, Malik Mukhtar, Malik Saeed Amir, Malik Fazalullah, Malik Aurangzab, Maulana Shazad and Maulana Noor Nabi were among the participants. The jirga constituted a lashkar to be deployed on the Karakoram Highway and boundary areas with the restive Shangla and Swat district and decided that no alien would be allowed into the Kohistan district.

The elders constituted a separate lashker of 180 youngsters from all the tribes who would guard the Puttan Hydro power project, saying “It is a matter of honour and pride for the locals that engineers and other staff from the neighbouring friendly country China are working in our area and it is our duty to ensure their safety.”

They said those who provided shelter to or established links with outlaws would not only be fined Rs1 million, but their houses would also be destroyed and they would be expelled from the district.
