EAST LONDON, Jan 28: The four-day warm-up match between South African Invitational XI and Pakistan petered out into a draw on Monday as bad light brought an end to the proceedings shortly after tea.

Set 323 to win off 81 overs at Buffalo Park, the Invitation XI were on 190/5 when the umpires called time.

The Invitation XI started off brightly, with the Davy Jacobs (36) going on the attack and treating Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul, who conceded 41 runs in six overs, with scant respect.

But opening partner Andrew Puttick (26) was bowled by Junaid Khan and Stiaan van Zyl was run-out for 45 before Jacobs and Cody Chetty steered them to 70 for two at lunch.

Immediately after lunch, Mohammad Irfan had Jacobs caught at slip by Younis Khan and Chety followed soon after.

But Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Justin Ontong rebuilt the innings with an entertaining partnership of 45 before Van Jaarsveld was deceived by Saeed Ajmal’s slower ball.

Earlier, Pakistan resuming on their overnight score of 240, quickly lost four wickets and declared at 250-9 with Kyle Abbott running riot as he ended with figures of four for 26.—Agencies
