LAHORE: Former Test cricketers have urged Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to direct the board’s officials to ensure timely payment of their monthly pensions, saying there appears to be no proper system in place.

Speaking to Dawn on condition of anonymity, several former Test players said it had become routine for them to receive their pensions in their bank accounts — and in some cases through cheques — only after the middle of each month, whereas previously the payments were made during the first week of every month.

They also said the PCB should increase the pension amount in view of the prevailing high cost of living, adding that it had not been revised for the past three years.

The former cricketers expressed hope that the PCB chairman would take notice of the matter at the earliest and ensure timely payment of pensions to those who had served Pakistan cricket in the past.

They added that several widows of former Test cricketers depended solely on these pensions for their livelihood, and timely payments would provide them much-needed relief.

According to them, the pension for the month of March has yet to be received.
