SWABI, Oct 14: Political parties have launched undeclared election campaign in the district by holding corner meetings.

Jamaat-i-Islami district amir Saeed Zada told Dawn on Sunday last week JI central amir Syed Manawar Hassan visited the district, followed by the visit of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F leader Akram Khan Durrani. He maintained that the KP Chief Minister Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti was also expected to visit the district next week, and these visits were all part of the election campaign to reach to voters.

Shahram Khan Tarakai, central chairman of Awami Jamhoori Ittehad, said without honest leadership it was difficult to take the country out of the crises.MPA Javid Khan Tarakai is also focused on his PK-32, Swabi-II constituency to complete homework before the announcement of the date for general elections.

Former provincial education minister Maulana Fazal Ali claimed at a public meeting in Zaida on Sunday that a number of people in Zaida and Khunda had joined the JUI-F and many more would follow suit. “Compared to the 2008 election my position has become very strong in PK-35, Swabi-5,” he said. In the previous election he was defeated by incumbent MPA Sikandar Irfan.

Former MNA of JI Usman Khan advocate told a gathering of the party workers to start reaching to people because ‘future belonged to them’.

On the other hand, Awami National Party leaders claim that 70 per cent population of the district is represented by them.

Tamraiz Khan, district general secretary of the party, said lobbying for the party tickets had already started and the names of some contesting candidates had been cleared.

“I could proudly say the district has remained a stronghold of the ANP and if the opposition parties fail to forge an electoral alliance against our party candidates then we would be on the top like the previous years,” he said.

Babar Salim, chairman of Swabi Qaumi Mahaz, said his party had worked for the welfare of the people and that he never left the district and stood with the people through thick and thin. —Correspondent
