RAWALPINDI, Nov 19: Eight persons involved in cases of theft, possession of illegal arms, narcotics and robbery were convicted by different courts on Monday.

The additional sessions judge, Chaudhary Imtiaz, awarded four-and-a-half years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs5,000 to Mohammad Sulaiman, after he confessed to his crime before the court.

The police seized 3.75kg of charas and 250 grams of opium from his possession and a case was registered against him with the Westridge police on September 21, 2000.

In another case Civil Judge Abid Rizwan Abid sentenced an accused Imran Liaquat to nine months imprisonment each in two cases, when he confessed to his crime before the court.

Liaquat Ali was arrested by RA Bazaar police on April 20, 2001, when a pistol was recovered from him. A theft case was registered against him on the same date.

Civil Judge Hasnain Azhar awarded two years jail term and a fine of Rs1,000 each to accused Akmal Shahzad and Waseef Badshah in a theft case. Banni police registered a case against them last year.

Accused Imran Shaukat and Younis were awarded three years jail term and a fine of Rs2,000 each in a robbery case, by the same court.

Case against them was registered with Banni police last year.

Additional Sessions Judge, Sakhi Mohammad Kahoot sentenced accused Sher Aman to six months imprisonment and fine of Rs30,000, after he confessed to his crime before the judge.

Police had recovered 800 gram of opium from his possession. Case against him was registered with Waris Khan police last year.

Additional Sessions Judge, Siddique Tabassum awarded two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs30,000 to one accused Fiaz on the charges of possessing drugs.

Civil lines police registered the case against him last year. Accused confessed to his crime before the judge.s
