TIMERGARA, April 4: A controversy has arisen over the ownership of the land near Timergara city where a stadium and a children park is to be built.

Local MPA and provincial minister for technical education Mahmood Zeb Khan, who announced the project of late, insists the land belongs to the government, while many locals lay claim to the land.

These 'owners' of the land have threatened to put up a strong resistance if work on the project is initiated.

They showed up in front of Timergara Press Club to express resentment against the announcement about 'unauthorised' use of their land for stadium and park development. They shouted slogans against minister Mahmood.

Noted among them were Aminur Rehman, Shafiullah, Fazal Akbar, Muhammad Aleem Khan, Bakht Zada, Naeemur Rehman, Jamil Khan and Shafiqur Rehman.

Led by Ubaidur Rehman, they said the proposed site for stadium and children park was their land not owned by the state.

"We have possessed it for decades and will never let the government use it for stadium and park as it will kill us financially," Mr Ubaid said. He urged minister Mahmood to donate his own land in the city for the project. -Correspondent
