Fakhra Younus laid to rest in Karachi

KARACHI: The body of Fakhra Younus who had committed suicide in Italy on Saturday, arrived in Karachi on Sunday.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members, lawmakers and Abdul Sattar Edhi were among those present at the Karachi airport to receive the body.

Fakhra was a victim of an acid attack carried out by her husband, Bilal Khar, the son of PPP leader Ghulam Mustafa Khar. He had burned her face with acid 12 years ago.

Fakhra committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of her flat in Rome.

Funeral prayers were offered in the hospital ground in Rome and the body was sent for Pakistan.

In her last message before committing suicide, Fakhra had written that she was committing suicide over the silence of law on the atrocities and the insensitivity of Pakistani rulers.

Fakhra's burial took place in a graveyard in DHA.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Bilal Khar said that he had been proved innocent in this case years ago and if Fakhra had to commit suicide because of him, she would have done it 12 years ago. He further stated that this case is being politicised.

The person who is responsible for this brutual and inhuman act should be immediately arrested and no bail should be granted to him. His crime is unpardonable . He should dbe tried and subsequently punished for his henious crime. Why he is protected uptill now; because he belongs to the feudal class.

We are talking about the justice only, no one knows the actual cause of suicide...yes, the culprit must be punished for this heinous crime, but there should be a prob for cause of suicide.

Human life has no value in our country, this kind of incident is unimaginable and inhuman but is common incident for us. The person responsible is still at large and pointing fingers at the victim just goes to show the great law and order we have !! We call ourselves Islamic state, people just going to mosques and no care for teachings of Islam and what it means ..

Why is their no suo moto and why this case has been overlooked for so long? This is really disgusting. What we read everyday in the newspaper against the women in Pakistan is despicable. The feudalistic mindset is so deep rooted in our Psyche that all the powers are with them and nobody can do much about it. I don't expect much from anyone there! God help the country. Haaah Fakhra..She separated herself from shambles of life by committing suicide and voicing against Patriarchal society verily after finding no place place in Europe..Another voice laid to rest..In what circumstances she decided towards death no doubt is hidden now to all..Justice still to be without late as these like incidents will engulf our society soon.

Honestly, these Politicians and their offsprings in Pakistan are free to commit any crime and walk away with no consequences. Why media is not on Mr. Khar like non cureable disease? I do not understand. These people make me sick and no wonder Pakistan going down hill. People think its a wild wild west and you can do anything in this country if you have money.

I have had my paths crossed with Bilal in Lahore Cant. This is about 25 years ago when his father was in Jail, and he used to live a life of a bully. I remember him carrying an automatic gun, and chasing some girl. Kids grown up in a broken and mafia like household can not be expected to be normal. Above, all these people are brought up thinking of poor fellow human beings as their slaves. Pity, a muslim county proclaiming to implement 'Sharia' law is not so oblivious to the very basic human rights. This speaks of the subservient nature of a common Pakistani, who is out to seek his/her basic rights in exchange for humiliation from his so called superior being. It is high time for the citizens of Pakistan to rise and shine - realize the meaning of word INTEGRITY and Self-Respect.

Tragic end to a very sad story(thats what it is to an ordinary citizen of this country). The killer is still on the loose claiming innocence. Actually she was dead 12 years ago when an influential citizen of this country committed this crime. What is the punishment for this crime? I don't know, but one thing is certain that if this crime was committed in any civilized society, the victim would be still alive and the criminal in jail. May her soul rest in peace.

I dont think Ghulam Mustafa Khar is a PPP leader anymore, however he was one of the founding members of PPP . He resigned from the party long time ago. In any case Bilal should be behind bars if proven guilty .
