TIMERGARA, Dec 5 The modern technology of computer has become a major hurdle for a citizen to get his computerised national identity card as his fingerprints resemble those of his twin brother.
Zahid Ahmad son of Sher Mohammad, a resident of Dherai Talash village in Lower Dir district, told Dawn that he couldn't get his national identity card because the Nadra system failed to differentiate between his fingerprints and those of his brother Jamil Ahmad, who had got CNIC a year ago and was abroad now.
Zahid and Jamil, born on Jan 1, 1986, not only resemble each other faces, but there is also no difference in their gaits and voices.
Amir Sultan, one of their schoolteachers, said they would often get confused as to who was Jamil and who was Zahid. Jamil got his CNIC and passport and went to Saudi Arabia eight months ago.
“I visited various Nadra sub-offices in the region and was refused issuance of CNIC when officials checked my fingerprints through computer,” he said.
He demanded of the Nadra authorities to issue him national identity card, saying it was not his fault rather a mistake by the machine.
Nadra regional manager, Arshad Khan, told Dawn that indeed it was a genuine case but the system always failed to verify his fingerprints.
He said the problem could be solved only if both the brothers were checked at a time in Nadra centre at Islamabad.
