LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), using advanced AI-based surveillance technology, has facilitated the arrest of a gang, allegedly involved in snatching mobile phones and cash from people and other street crime incidents in the city.

The suspects were wanted by police for their alleged involvement in snatching mobile phones and cash from people in various areas of Lahore.

As per police, the gang primarily operated on the main Canal Road and adjoining localities, using 125cc motorcycles.

Many cases against the suspects had been registered in several police stations, including Kot Lakhpat, Defence-A, Harbanspura, Garden Town and Shadman.

According to a spokesperson, upon receiving information, the virtual patrolling officer of the PSCA promptly tracked the suspects’ movement through the surveillance cameras. With the assistance of advanced AI and facial recognition technology, the PSCA identified the suspects and completed their route mapping.

Based on the intelligence report provided by the PSCA, the police conducted a successful operation and apprehended the suspects. The spokesperson added that effective implementation of modern AI-based technology has led to a significant (up to 74 percent) reduction in crime rates in Lahore.

He says that people are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately through emergency helpline 15 or the Safe City Public Safety App to ensure timely police response.

The spokesperson adds that the PSCA remains committed to ensure safety of citizens’ lives and property through continuous monitoring and use of cutting-edge technology.
