HYDERABAD: The Sindh Textbook Board (STBB) organised a two-day orientation workshop on Wednesday bringing together 22 accomplished writers, subject experts, seasoned educators and textbook developers to fine-tune Asan Sindhi and Lazmi Sindhi textbooks for grades-III to VIII.

The programme, said a press release issued by the board, aimed to empower the participants with cutting-edge pedagogical methodologies, curriculum-aligned content development strategies and innovative frameworks to enable them to produce engaging, culturally relevant and educationally robust textbooks that inspired and educated young learners.

The trainers apprised the participants about strategies to bring syllabus in harmony with modern academic methodologies. It would help produce quality books for children laced with interesting cultural relevance, it said.

The first day of the workshop featured a session on “Understanding of curriculum and its Integration into textbooks” conducted by Idrees Jatoi, a curriculum specialist, who provided guidance on aligning textbook content with National Curriculum Framework to ensure coherence and educational relevance.

Ghulam Mustafa Nagraj, an expert in interdisciplinary education, talked about “Integration of framework of food and nutrition,” offering practical approaches to weaving themes of health, nutrition, and sustainable living into Sindhi language lessons to promote students’ well-being.

Dr Mohammad Tufail, a distinguished academic, delivered a comprehensive session on “Integration of Bloom’s taxonomy through SLOs and assessment,” equipping authors with tools to design Student Learning Outcomes that fostered critical thinking and created assessments aligned with stages of cognitive development.

Nazim Ali Khan Matilvi, a veteran in Sindhi language education, presented “Development of textbooks for Asan Sindhi (grades III–VIII),” focusing on crafting accessible, age-appropriate and engaging content to make Sindhi language learning enjoyable and effective for younger students.

Dr Altaf Jokhio, an authority on Sindhi literature, enlightened participants on “Development of textbooks for compulsory Sindhi (grades VI–VIII),” emphasising strategies to create intellectually stimulating material tailored to academic and cultural needs of middle school students.

The second and final day of the workshop on Aug 28 would feature two pivotal sessions on “Punctuation for Sindhi content,” which would delve into nuances of Sindhi grammar and punctuation to ensure linguistic precision and clarity and “Integration of frameworks for disaster risk reduction, culture and heritage, and career education,” which would explore incorporating vital themes such as disaster preparedness, Sindh’s rich cultural legacy and career-oriented guidance into textbooks to prepare students for real-world challenges and foster a sense of pride in their heritage, said the press release.
