TOBA TEK SINGH: Meat exporters will soon be given concessions at seaports to make the livestock sector globally competitive, said Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Sunday.
He was addressing a ceremony in Toba to hand over motorcycles to 74 Punjab veterinary department’s para-veterinary staffers.
He said the livestock sector was the backbone of the national economy. He said that meat exporters would get concessions in charges on Pakistani seaports, reducing costs and enhancing competitiveness. “This will enable Pakistan’s meat industry to compete at the international level,” he added.
Faisalabad Division Livestock Director Dr Syed Nadeem Badar, Additional Director Dr Hina Zafar, and deputy directors Dr Muhammad Habib Sultan, Dr Syed Zeeshan Khalid Gillani, Dr Arshad Randhawa, Dr Hina Kausar and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Naeem Sindhu were also present.
ENCOUNTER: An alleged robber was killed near Garh Maharaja locality on Shorkot Road in Jhang district in an encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) on Sunday.
Police said that during patrol, two motorcycle riders were signaled to stop but they opened fire on the policemen, which was also returned. After the guns went silent, police claimed to find one of the attackers dead, while his accomplice had fled.
The alleged robber was identified as Azhar Hussain Malangi of Basti Sajawal in Ahmad Pur Sial tehsil, who was involved in 21 dacoities and thefts cases.
SUSPENDED: Jhang DPO Bilal Iftikhar Kiani has suspended two cops after a video went viral in which they could be seen torturing MBBS student Arsalan Zafar over a traffic dispute at Adda Chund Bharwana, Jhang.
The policemen were identified as Muhammad Ramzan and Muhammad Suhail. He also issued show cause notices to both accused cops and ordered an inquiry against them.
DEATH SENTENCE: Faisalabad additional district and sessions Judge Rana Tanveer Ahmed handed down the death sentence with a fine of Rs1 million each to two accused in a murder case on Saturday.
The accused included Muhammad Rizwan and Omar Hassan. The court also awarded life imprisonment to two co-accused Ali Haider and Ghulam Raza with a fine of Rs1 million each. Another accused Ghulam Murtaza was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
All five accused had shot dead Muhammad Tayyab and injured Muhammad Tahir, Muhammad Zubair, Sher Muhammad and Muhammad Ashraf on Oct 24, 2022. The victims were on their way to the Faisalabad Saddar police station to join investigation of an attempt to murder case after getting pre-arrest bails granted by a court.
Both parties had a dispute over the ownership of a farmland.
RAPE: The Faisalabad Rodala police arrested a cloth merchant of Rodala Mandi Bazaar on Sunday for allegedly raping a 17-year-old boy.
His mother claimed in her FIR, registered under section 376 of the PPC, that the accused took her son to his under construction house where he raped him on gunpoint.
ACCIDENT: A man died and his son was critically injured after a truck ran over their motorcycle near Meeranwala Bangla, Faisalabad on Sunday. Rescue 1122 said that a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction ran over their bike and Ghareeb Hussain (65) was instantly killed, while his son Ansar Ali was seriously wounded. He was shifted to the Allied Hospital.
Meanwhile, a bus hit a motorcycle on Toba Road near Chak 299 JB, Gojra and Naseem Akhtar (45) died on the spot, while her husband Muhammad Farooq (50) was critically injured. He was shifted to the Gojra THQ Hospital.
GANG RAPE: A woman and a youth among the five accused in an alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in Chak 285 JB, Gojra have been arrested on Sunday.
Complainant said in his FIR that a local woman took his niece with the excuse that they had arranged recitation of the Holy Quran. However, he claimed that she handed her over to four accused persons who forcibly raped her on gunpoint at an outhouse and fled leaving the victim there.
Police spokesperson claimed that two of the five nominated accused had been arrested.
LIGHTNING STRIKE: A youth suffered serious burn injuries after lightning fell on him when he was asleep on the roof of his house early in the morning on Sunday in Ali Park locality of Gojra. He has been shifted to the Gojra THQ Hospital.
