OKARA: Rescue 1122 staff evacuated 67 persons, along with 27 sheep and goats near Attari on the river Sutlej banks on Monday due to flooding of the area.

Officials say that the river water has inundated standing crops in the area.

The evacuation of people and animals from the area was supervised by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Finance & Planning) Abdul Jabbar Gujjar, Assistant Commissioner Faisal Walid, District Emergency Officer Zafar Iqbal and MPA Iftikhar Hussain Chacchar, officials say.

They say that the irrigation and health departments’ camps are operational in the area, adding that 30 rescuers, equipped with boats and life jackets, took part in the evacuation of people and small animals, who were shifted to safer areas.

The district administration and police are monitoring the flood situation in the river Sutlej that is currently in low flood.
